SELTA

SELTA, the Swedish-English Literary Translators' Association, was established at the beginning of 1982 after several years of informal liaison among many of those active in the field of Swedish-English translation.

The SELTA website can be found at www.selta.org.uk.

The aims of SELTA are to promote the publication of Swedish and Finland-Swedish literature in English and to represent the interests of those involved in the translation of Swedish literature into English. It acts as a pressure group, an information exchange and a register of translators. SELTA maintains contact with English-language and Swedish-language publishers and with relevant cultural and literary organizations in Britain, Sweden and Finland. Meetings are held once or twice a year, and there is a Newsletter for members.

SELTA keeps a register of Swedish-English translators currently available for work, with brief details of published translations and type of work undertaken. The information is available to publishers and agents on request.

The Association is managed by a committee comprised at present as follows:

Chair: Eivor Martinus (London)
Secretary: Peter Linton
Treasurer: Janet Cole
Committee members: Anne Born (Salcombe), Patricia Crampton (Calne), Laurie Thompson (Llanybydder), Neil Smith (Diss) (Co-opted)

At present, SELTA membership stands at a total of 49 — 26 Full and 23 Associate members. Membership enquiries from translators in Britain and Europe are welcomed, and should be sent to the Hon. Secretary at the address below.

There are two categories of membership:

Full membership: £15 per annum.
Open to those who have translated and had published a Swedish literary work in book form.

Associate membership: £10 per annum.
Open to those who have translated and had published some other Swedish work.

Others with relevant interest or involvement in the field of Swedish literature may be admitted to membership at the discretion of the Committee.

Cheques, made payable to SELTA, should be sent to:
